StoryOne Bible(“we,” “us”) makes a Bible reading and study app for iOS and Android. We built it to help you study Scripture — not to harvest your data. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information, and we use no advertising or third-party tracking SDKs.

Information we collect

Account information

You can use much of the app without an account. If you create one, we use Firebase Authentication to store your email address and a display name. You may also sign in anonymously, in which case no email is collected. If you add a profile photo, it is stored in Firebase Storage.

Your study content

Notes, highlights, journal entries, bookmarks, reading-plan progress, prayers, and memory verses are stored on your device. If you are signed in, some of this content (for example your study-journal notes and profile) is synced to our database (Google Firebase Firestore) so it is available across your devices. Content you explicitly choose to share — such as a public note, a group message, a shared prayer, or a community reaction — is stored so it can be shown to the people you shared it with.

Photos, camera, microphone & location

These are used only when you choose a feature that needs them, and only with your permission:

  • Photos/Camera — to set a verse-image background or add a photo to a journal entry. Scanning a verse sends the photo to our AI service to read the reference (see below).
  • Microphone & speech — for voice search, dictation, and sermon transcription. Live transcription may be processed on your device; higher-accuracy transcription sends the audio to our transcription service (see below).
  • Location — only if you choose to tag a journal entry with your current location. We do not track your location in the background.

AI-powered features

Some features (verse explanations, the weekly study, topic overviews, verse scanning, sermon transcription, word pronunciation) send the relevant input — such as a Bible reference, a passage, a photo of text, or recorded audio — to our backend (Supabase) and, from there, to AI/model providers to generate a response. We cache generated results so the same request is not sent again. We do not send your identity with these requests beyond what is needed to operate the feature.

Diagnostics

We use Firebase to operate accounts, sync, and (optionally) push notifications. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising networks, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.

How your information is used

  • To provide and sync the features you use.
  • To generate AI study content you request.
  • To show content you chose to share with friends, groups, or the community.
  • To send notifications you enable (e.g. daily verse, plan reminders).
  • To keep the service secure and working.

Service providers

We rely on trusted infrastructure providers who process data on our behalf: Google Firebase (authentication, database, storage, messaging), Supabase (backend functions and caching), Cloudflare R2 (hosting audio and optional downloads), and AI/model providers used to generate requested content. Payment for optional giving is processed by Stripe; we do not store your card details.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. Content is shared only where you direct it (public notes, groups, shared prayers, community). We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

Your choices & rights

  • Delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. This removes your profile, synced content we hold for you, and authored community content, and signs you out.
  • Adjust or revoke camera, microphone, photo, and location permissions in your device settings.
  • Turn notifications on or off in the app or your device settings.
  • Request a copy or deletion of your data by emailing us at hello@storyonebible.com.

Data retention

We keep account and synced content while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove the personal data associated with it, except where we must retain limited records to comply with legal obligations.

Children’s privacy

StoryOne Bible is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
